One Third Pitch

This site used to be a full sized football pitch. This is an attempt to make the remaining third of the pitch playable again. An area for penalty shoot-outs, practicing corners, headers and volleys, free kicks just outside the box and for a place to sit and watch.

Big bits of gravel make the surface unplayable, moss growing over the gravel, small bushes and weeds growing, shipping container in corner, lots of debris has been fly tipped here.

The pitch has been non-functional and inactive for around 10 years. The reason for the gravel being laid on top of red blaes gravel can be ascertained; when the site temporarily became a carpark between
2015-2017.

Plans and diagrams of the site

Gravel removal over 4 months (January - April). Once the gravel is removed the ground surface will be playble again. The gravel is shifted using a wheelbarrow, rake, shovel and broom. Begun with raking the gravel into small piles across the site. These are then moved using the wheelbarrow and shovel to the back end of the site behind the tree logs. Then this process begins again. Each layer takes 2 or more weeks to finish. After each layer is complete the gravel pieces become smaller and smaller.

Plan to do this until the soil/blaes in completly revealed and in the long term plan to sew grass seeds.
Photo taken during one of the first visits to the pitch. Small trees and bushes surround and grow inside the goal mouth. Goalposts covered in rust. Ground surface covered in big pieces of gravel and large plastic board dumped on ground.
Trees/bushes removed from remaining goal. As they were lifted out of the ground the original red blaes gravel of the pitch was brought to the surface.

Rust grinded off goalposts. As the rust in grinded off it appears that the goalposts have semi disappered out of sight.

Goalposts painted with white metal paint. Two coats of paint needed.

Goal net added. Attactched to the goal using transparent zip ties on the crossbar and posts. Tent pegs used to secure the net to the ground.

The two smaller goals allow full matches to be played on the One Third Pitch as well. Plan to add wheels to the bases so they can be moved around easily.

The pitch has been left incomplete for now. The gravel got the better of my knee - have been out for 6 months.

However the site is now under the wing of the bowling green community centre in Pollokshields.
